A collage can be made by assembling a group of shapes on a substrate to make a whole.

The items you can collage with are infinite as are the substrates.

 

In this workshop, Susan will:

 

·      Show a variety of interesting collage materials for inspiration and talk about how and where you can make, find and purchase your own unique collage elements

·      Demonstrate how I make patterned collage paper

·      Demonstrate hand painted paper techniques

·      Talk about several adhesives and when to use each one

·      Talk about composition

·      Create some collages

 

We’ll have check-ins to see what you’re making and there will be plenty of time for Q&A

 

Materials Susan will  be using:

·      Gel Press plate

·      Golden OPEN acrylics colors

·      Rice paper

·      A repurposed Tyvek envelope

·      Scissors, tweezers

·      Found and handmade papers

·      GOLDEN Soft Gel Matte, Heavy Gel Matte

·      Silver Brush Bristlon flat brushes, Natural Fan brush

·      Water bucket and rags

·      Palette knife

·      Ampersand Museum Series Hardbord panel

·      6x6” Ampersand DuoFrame

·      Watercolor paper or art journal for substrate

(FULL) Paper and Paint Assemblage

$40 Live from my studio on Zoom.

There are many ways to make collage papers and elements. I’ll be demonstrating some fun approaches to collage assemblage using handmade papers, paint and Gel Mediums.

  • Building collage elements

  • Gathering, making and buying collage papers

  • Dry brushing your papers and other painting techniques

  • Tone on tone effects

  • Incorporating paint into collage

  • Glazing with transparent colors

  • Working with a limited palette

  • When, how, and why to use the various Gels and Medium

  • One of the ways I generate a little income from my collages

Workshop will be recorded, unedited and available to watch for about 30 days after the event at your convenience.

Materials needed for class:

  • Any collage papers you already have

  • Some white or very light paper

  • Some black or very dark paper

  • Your paint set (I’m using Golden Heavy Body, High Flow, SoFlat and Fluid colors)

  • Your brush set (I’m using Silver Brush Ultra Mini’s and Bristlon Flats in various sizes)

  • Gel Medium, Soft Gel, any gel you have on hand (I’m using Golden Soft Gel Matte and Matte Medium, Super Matte Medium)

  • Scissors, small and regular sizes

  • Water container and rags

  • A substrate- heavy paper or your art journal (Your choice)

Collage Landscapes with a twist. Anything can be collaged; why stop at just paper? These landscapes are assembled with shredded money, printed tea bags, dyed dryer sheets and beautiful handmade papers from all over the world.

Materials Fee $25 Includes :
a Very Interesting Collage Pack with specially chosen hand made papers from all over the world, shredded currency, hand pressed flowers from my garden and more! Acrylic paints, hardwood panel, palette knives, paint brushes to share, and a handout with some landscape scenarios for inspiration.
