Mixed Media Collage

Collage is an easy, fun art form that anyone can create with items found around the house. We are going to make several small collages using upcycled items like tea and tea bags, coffee filters, thread, beads, handmade papers, old postage, piano roll paper, cigar bands and more! Start going through your junk drawers, magazines and sewing kits!

I’ll go over composition, color and design ideas and there will be several demonstrations on how I get started, assemble my elements and add tiny finishing touches. I’m going to work on several pieces at a time using the items on the supply list and items from the Inspiration kit.

The Inspiration kit (with shipping) is only included with the $75 class option and will be mailed to you. Kits are limited and you’ll want to make sure yours arrives before class so please register early. A printable supply list with alternative options and FAQ’s will be emailed to you after you register.

To register go to the SHOP page and you’ll see the 3 “pay what you want” options for sale.

The $35 and $50 options are available for students who can’t afford the full rate but would like to take the class anyway. If you can’t afford the full rate- no worries! Pay what you can and believe me; you have everything you need to make awesome collages around your house.

Once you’re registered, I’ll email the supply list with alternate supplies and options and if you chose the $75 option your Inspiration kit will be mailed to you USPS.

This is a ZOOM meeting and I’ll send you the link and password before class starts. If you have any questions please email me at Susan.Rossiter@yahoo.com

FAQ:

How’s the ZOOM thing going to work?

I’ll email you before the class with a link and a password. When you click the link, it’ll take you ZOOM. If you’ve never used ZOOM it may ask you to download it first. After you enter the password ZOOM will have you test your audio and sound. It’s just a matter of clicking the test buttons and listening, then clicking the next test button and talking to see if you can be heard.

Once we’re in our room you’ll be muted (just so that everyone isn’t talking at the same time) I’ll go over some demo’s and you’ll be able to type questions. There is a chat button at the bottom of the screen- when you click on it the chat window opens and you can chat with the whole room. I have an assistant who will also help with questions if needed. After the demos I’ll answer your questions. You’ll have time to work when I’m answering questions and I’ll go back and forth- demonstrating and answering questions.

What is with the weird pricing?

A few of the Golden Artists Educators have created tiered pricing so you can choose the best option for you. In this case,

This 4 hour class costs $50 per person and you provide all of your own supplies.

I’m also offering a lower rate of $35 for anyone who is in a bind right now- honor system J

The 3rd choice is higher rate of $75 that includes an Inspiration Kit and shipping to your address. Kits will arrive from Ohio to your house (in the US) before the class if you register ASAP.

To register- go to the SHOP page on my website SusanRossiter.com and you’ll see the three options ($35, $50, and $75). They are all for the exact same class on May 23rd and only the $75 option includes the Inspiration Kit with a bunch of unique collage materials. Just choose the option that works best for you. You don’t need the kit to take the class.

What’s in the kit?

3 substrates 5x7” and smaller, 1 is prepped with some color blocks printed on the background

A stack of hand made papers, many I made myself with my Gel Press

Tea bag paper

A cigar band- possibly 2, stamps or small images of stamps

Tiny baggies with an assortment of a few of each: 1mm ceramic beads, 2mm mummy beads, flower shaped sequins

A pinch of glass beads (when I was a kid I painted the stripes in parking lots and roads one summer and these were the glass beads they sprinkled on the wet paint to make them reflective) They let me fill up a mason jar and 25 years later my jar is still half full so I have some to share with you!

A piece of plaster impregnated gauze

A pinch of fresco flakes

12” Recycled silk Sari yarn pieces and a few small snippets of random lace, fancy trim and vintage ribbon

A few unique papers I’ve collected or was given over the years

Punched papers, inclusion papers, checkerboard paper, mulberry and banana leaf papers

An empty pill capsule (they make excellent tiny circles)

Some shredded American money

I’m very much looking forward to creative time with my art family- see you soon!
