Printmaking has been around for hundreds of years. This class uses some traditional printmaking techniques combined with some non-traditional ideas. Neat, perfect illustrations or rustic shabby renderings- it’s up to you. Since we only have 1 day we’re going to focus on Dry Point Etching, Intaglio printing and Monoprints. We’re using AKUA products which are non-toxic and clean up with soap and water.
You’ll see how the plate is prepared with a beveled edge and then you’ll etch your design or image, learn how to ink and wipe the plate, prepare the printmaking papers and use the Pin Presses. We’ll create several editions of your etching. While the Intaglio prints are drying, we’ll work on some monoprints and I’ll show you some of the finishing techniques I use. You’ll have several of the same print to hand color with watercolor washes, pan pastels, Prismacolor Pencils, Derwent Inktense Pencils and more…Finally, you’ll sign and number your prints. I’m providing some samples for inspiration and you’ll see how no matter what your skill level you can make fantastic prints to take home and frame or share.
